Starting on May 5th, the island-made comedy movie Kooperman will be available to view free online at koopermanmovie.com. To celebrate the launch, folks are invited to gather for a free screening of the film at Lightning Bolt Comics, 99 Grafton Street, that evening at 8 pm.
Starring all Island talent, the comedy tells the story of Griffin Kooperman, the owner of a struggling comic book store. Facing eviction, he must snap out of his fantasy world and become his own hero in order to save his store, his friendship, and himself.
The film debuted at the Atlantic Film Festival, followed by screenings at the Charlottetown Film Festival, Silver Wave Film Festival, Cineplex Cinemas Charlottetown, Hal-Con, Animaritime, Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, and, most recently, Fundy Fan Fest, where the film reached the hands of indie filmmaking icon and comic book fan extraordinaire, Kevin Smith.
“Since the hero is a comic book store owner, we thought Free Comic Book Day should include a free movie,” says director Harmony Wagner.
Dylan Miller, real life Lightning Bolt Comics storeowner and Kooperman star, will be present for a Q&A afterwards, as well as producers Wagner and Jason Rogerson and members of the cast and creative team.
“Lightning Bolt doubled for the Kooperman Comics store in the film, so it will be a truly unique experience to see the film in the very place it was shot, “ adds producer Rogerson.
Doors open at 7:30 pm for the 8 pm screening. Admission is open to 14A viewers until capacity is reached. To watch Kooperman online on or after May 5th, go to koopermanmovie.com. Behind the scenes footage and interviews with cast and crew will also be available there over the coming weeks.
